~ Who can benefit?

Bowen technique is a neuromuscular therapy that is gentle enough to help new born babies to the elderly and address chronic and acute injuries.

~ Where was the therapy founded?

Australia, by a man named Tom Bowen in the mid 50's. He named his therapy based off of his last name, 'Bowen Therapy' . He then taught various practitioners and chiropractic's his findings, and he himself did not expand much further before he passed, but they continued to develop the therapy and scientific research. They branched out and started giving their own names to the therapy that more accurately described the nature of the science. These are the researched supported names that the therapy developed into; Neurostructural Technique, Neurostructural Integration Technique, Fascial therapy, Myofascial Therapy, Myofascial Kinetics, .... the list goes on. Leaving the title Bowen behind in the dust and being "lesser known" as the other names for it arose in popularity and scientific study.

~ The Science ~

Neurostructural Integration Therapy's Science - using the Bowen Technique. It was developed to support the dynamic integration of structure and viscera, through stimulation of the Central, Peripheral, Autonomic Nervous System.

Your Doctor may have described this to you as your "Fight flight, or Rest Digest"

It consists of small precise movements over specific muscles and tendons throughout the body, primarily where nerve bundles are most accessible. It triggers the proprioceptors -body’s healing mechanism- by going through the autonomic nervous system, and putting the body into a relaxed state (parasympathetic state); which is where we do all of our healing, when you are sick or injured a Doctor will tell you to get plenty of rest for this exact reason. The technique using gentle cross-fiber manipulations release adhesions in the collagen fibers (scrunched up unorderly tissues and scar tissues) allowing the tissues to rehydrate, and realign myofascial postural tone (reducing rigidity and stiffness in the tissues which allows the body and bones to realign.) The patient then will then be left for 2 minutes. This allows the released nerve stimulation to travel through the body fully before the next “Moves and Protocols" are performed.

~Nervous about Therapy?

This is a comfortable therapy, in that these moves can be done over loose clothing, clients are asked to where athletic or loose fitted maneuverable clothing, which allows the client to feel comfortable and relaxed while the therapist is at work.

~My Scope of Practice & More Info

A Bowen practitioner does not diagnose, rather will assess the body to determine possible myofascial restrictions, body misalignment, and muscular tensions that are likely the cause of the symptoms present.

Benefits are generally felt and recognized within one to three sessions depending on the condition. Once an ailment has been helped/ healed completely, the results will last forever… or until reinjured. Bowen is used for pain relief and healing, and also can be used for an overall feeling of relaxation throughout the entire body.

The concept and goal of the therapy is to stimulate the nerves and muscles to correct the negative feedback loop within a nerve and injury and bring the body back to its original blueprint with awakening and stimulating muscle memory with minimal pain.

Muscle memory is an incredible thing, think about anytime you've trained your body to do something. For example ride a bike, how to throw a ball, using a pencil to write, or even just walking! That ALL requires muscle memory. But that's not all it remembers, our muscles also remember trauma.

Come, let me help awaken your muscle memory and align you with pain free living!
